About the Futurity
Event Details
2027 Payment Schedule
Late payments are double the missed payment amount. Payments made after May 15, 2027 will incur a penalty of $2,000 for a total of $2,650.
All registered owners must be current NDQHRA members from the time the first payment is made.
Nominations & Entry
Nominating your horse is the first step to competing in the Northern Plains Futurity. Nominations open each year and must be submitted by the published deadline to be eligible.
Nominate Your Horse
Submit your horse's nomination by the published deadline. Your horse must be AQHA-registered and two years old in the year of the race.
Pay Nomination Fee
Nomination fees vary by deadline — early nominations receive a reduced rate. Contact the NDQHRA office for the current fee schedule.
Confirm Entry
Once nominated, you'll receive confirmation from NDQHRA. Watch for updates on trial draw dates and post positions.
Race Day
Compete in trials for a spot in the championship final. The top eight qualifiers by time advance to run for the added money purse.
Nomination deadlines, fees, and conditions will be published ahead of the 2027 season.
Eligibility Requirements
Two-year-old American Quarter Horses are nominated by the published deadline. Horses must be registered with AQHA and sired by a stallion who was sold or paid into the NDQHRA Stallion Auction three years prior to the race.
- Horse must be a registered American Quarter Horse (AQHA) in good standing.
- Horse must be two years old in the year of the race.
- Nomination must be submitted and fees paid by the published deadline.
- Owner and trainer must comply with all NDQHRA and AQHA rules and regulations.
- Horse must pass all required veterinary and equipment inspections on race day.
